If you see an error indicating the VMware Authorization Service is not running or has failed to start, you can following the 3 troubleshooting methods below to try resolving the issue.

Method 1: Starting the VMware Authentication services via the Services screen

1. Make sure that VMware Workstation or VMware Player are completely closed. If you already have the virtual machine opened, make sure to close it before proceeding.

2. Press Windows key + R to open up a Run dialog box.

3. In this dialog box type services.msc and press Enter to open up the Service screen. If you are prompted by the UAC (User Access Control), click Yes to grant administrative privileges.

4. Inside the Services screen, scroll through the list of services in the right hand pane until you locate the VMware Authorization service. Select this service.

5. Go to the General tab, and set the Startup Type to Automatic using the drop-down menu associated with this setting.

6. If the Service Status is set to Disabled, click on the Start button directly under the status.

7. Click Apply to save these changes, then close the Services screen and restart your computer.

8. Once the next startup is complete, open VMware, launch the CyberStart Game virtual machine, and see if the issue has been resolved.


Method 2: Starting the VMware Authorization service via System Configuration

1. Press Windows key + R to open up a Run dialog box.

2. In this dialog box type msconfig and press Enter to open up the System Configuration window. If you are prompted by the UAC (User Access Control), click Yes to grant administrative privileges.

3. Inside the System Configuration window, go to the Services screen and scroll through the list of services until you find VMware Authorization Service.

4. Make sure the box associated with the VMware Authorization Service is enabled, then click Apply to save your changes.

5. Restart your computer.

6. Once the next startup is complete, open VMware, launch the CyberStart Game virtual machine, and see if the issue has been resolved.


Method 3: Running VMware with admin privileges

1. Right click on the VMware shortcut or main executable and choose Properties.

2. Inside the Properties screen of VMware, select the Compatibility tab and go down to the Settings screen.

3. Once you get there, make sure the box associated with Run this program as an administrator is checked.

4. Click Apply to save the changes.

5. Double-click on the shortcut or executable that you've just modified and see if you are able to launch a virtual machine without encountering the "VMware Authorization service is not running" error.


Method 4: Repairing the VMware installation

1. Press Windows key + R to open up a Run dialog box.

2. In this dialog box type appwiz.cpl and press Enter to open up the System Configuration window. If you are prompted by the UAC (User Access Control), click Yes to grant administrative privileges.

3. Inside the Programs and Features screen, scroll down through the list of applications until you locate VMware Player or VMware workstation – depending on which program you're using.

4. Once you locate the correct application, right click on it and choose Change.

5. Choose Repair at the next screen to prompt the installer to repair the installation by fixing missing or corrupt files.

6. Click Repair and wait for the process to complete.

7. Once the repair process is complete, restart your computer.

8. Once the next startup is complete, open VMware, launch the CyberStart Game virtual machine, and see if the issue has been resolved.
